WHAT IS CLIMATE?
Climate and weather are not the same. When we say that the sun shines, it is not necessarily a good climate.
Our globe needs both rain, sun, heat and cold and when we have the right amount of these, the climate is good. But when it becomes hotter and hotter, year after year, it will cause problems for our globe and we have a bad climate.
What is CO2 and what does it do to the climate?
CO2 is a gas, in fact, like a fart. But this fart hangs up in the air, far far away, all the way around the earth and it isolates, so the heat from the sun can get in, but not out again, as in a greenhouse. The climate will change so our world will have more flooding, more storms and more drought, so it is important to make sure we have an atmosphere without too much CO2.
What happens if we eventually get a too warm climate?
If there is too hot the ice on the North and South Poles will among other things melt. If that happens, there are many animals who will get into trouble. The polar bear will have trouble to catch its food because it lies on the ice, waiting for seals to come up and get air, so if the ice melts it must catch them in the water, but polar bear swim too slow. Besides polar bears there are also many other mammals, birds and frogs, which can cause trouble.
What can you do to help?
- Take your bike instead of sitting in a car
- Remember to turn off the water even while brushing your teeth
- Your parents have to hang out the laundry instead of tumble drying clothes
- You must remember to turn off the lights where it is not needed
