Global warming poses a major threat for our planet today.
It is happening here and now and not only for our neighbors, - if we make an effort to reduce global CO2 emissions here and now, we can make a difference.
The name "Global Warming" is somewhat misleading as it does not mean that temperatures will rise everywhere, but rather that the atmosphere is changing and will affect the fragile ecological balance of our planet, with large temperature fluctuations in both directions to follow.
Climate change will affect us in a myriad of areas that are important to our everyday survival, access to water, health, weather patterns, biodiversity, species survival and even political conflicts. The effects of climate change should not be underestimated, and we will see that they are stepped up because of the interrelationship between these areas.
Although global warming does not have geographic boundaries and does not discriminate against us, poor areas will be disproportionately affected by climate change, because they often lack the social infrastructure such as access to clean water or health care.
We are all a part of the problem and we all have an ethical responsibility in relation to the climate - climate requires that we all participate so we all become a part of the solution.
Anyone can - and we should play an active role in reducing and solving the global warming challenges. If we all contribute, it will be millions of small things that could make a real difference.
In Denmark, we on average derive about 10 per tonne of CO2 per person.
You yourself have direct influence on many factors at home, including transport, power and electricity consumption and there are plenty of things you can do without changing the standard of living to help our environment.
How to emit less CO2
- Take the train or bus
- Consider an electric car or hybrid
- Tire pressure - tire pressure is important for safety, comfort and fuel economy
- Switch to bio-gasoline
- Limit your flights
- Walk or take your bike
- Use ridesharing
- Learn to drive economically
- Save power
- Turn off the lights when leaving a room
- Use compact fluorescent lamps, they are available for all purposes and save 80% on
- power consumption
- Turn off the halogen lamps on the mains switch
- Use an electric kettle and cook just enough water for your hot drinks
- Turn off unnecessary stand-by at the mains switch
- Use an automatic on/off power rail for the computer and television
- Laundry - use a drying rack instead of the dryer
- Check your refrigerator and freezer - you can borrow an electric meter in your local
- appliance store
- Switch to green electricity - it is a mixture of hydrogen, biomass and windpower
- Insulation - Save on the energy budget by checking and updateing your insulation
- Check your insulation and your windows and doors
- Get a professional proposal for energy savings in your home
- Solar Energy - Install solar panels for hot water or ventilation
- Windpower
- Geothermal energy is a good alternative
- Biofuels are a good alternative
- Use the dishwasher only when it is completely full
- Lower the temperature 1 °C in your home
- Save water with an air mixer
- Brief showers
- Turn off water while brushing your teeth
- Check cirkulationspumpen
- Check your circulation pump
- Celebrate someone with a tree for planting, instead of cut-off flowers
- Plant a tree
- Drop "bottled water" and drink "Danish water" straight from the tap
- Use pots and microwave
- Use reusable shoppingbags
- Buy local and save the poluting transport
- Buy products with less packaging
